When meeting a monk or nun in the course of your visit to Atisha Centre, be relaxed. Greet them as you would a new friend, introduce yourself, be friendly.
It is not appropriate for members of the opposite sex to touch a monk or nun, do not expect to shake hands. A greeting with palms together and slight bow is an appropriate greeting.
Most Western monks and nuns prefer informality; however the correct way to address a member of the Sangha is to call them “Venerable (Name)”.
There are protocols for relating to Sangha members during teachings – see Code of conduct and
Centre etiquette.
You can visit the monastery and meet with the monks either by appointment or in the afternoon between 2 and 4 pm. Please do not visit during lunchtime 12 – 2.
To make an appointment with one of the monks, please phone 03 54463691.
